Dr Gary Michelson Attacking Los Angeles City and LA Animal Services

In 2005 billionaire Dr Gary Michelson started Found Animals Foundation. I was at the meeting where he stated his goal was to quickly and easily end pet overpopulation in Los Angeles using his keen intellect and money. He initially offered a $75,000,000 prize to anyone who could invent a one shot permanent cat, dog sterilant. He later offered grant money just for research toward that goal. He worked with a camera crew who was at that initial meeting to document the "miracle" he was about to perform. They were going to make a documentary about it. 21 years later and he never awarded the prize and wasn't able to end pet overpopulation in LA as he promised. No documentary either.

Yesterday Dr Gary Michelson penned an Op-Ed  piece in a small local online site called Westside Current, see link below. In the Op-Ed he attacks the City of Los Angeles and LA Mayor Karen Bass blaming them for not reducing pet overpopulation because they only increased the Animal Services Department's budget by 1.6%. Below is that Op-Ed.

Michelson claims the problem is that the city isn't providing enough money for spay neuter funding. He claims "The cause is fixable and well understood." If it were so easy, why wasn't he able to solve the problem himself as he promised 21 years ago? He goes on to say "I have spent the past two decades working to expand access, directing more than $15 million toward spay and neuter services in Los Angeles and investing over $31 million in the search for a safe, nonsurgical sterilant for cats."

Michelson stated not providing enough funds for spay neuter caused the following.  "Over the past six years, the City’s animal-related liability payouts increased 65-fold to over $7 million in 2025. Sanitation costs are in the millions and rising, with 31,000 dead animal pickups last year." The animal related liability payouts had to do with dog bites of employees in the shelter. The dead animals picked up include wildlife, indoor kept pets who died indoors, small farm animals and owned free roaming pets. They are not all the direct result of less spay neuter funding.

Michelson stated "the City continues to increase funding elsewhere, including a $160 million investment in policing in this year’s proposed budget." He should know by now that the City responds to the desires of the citizens who stated they care more about more police officers than a larger budget for Animal Services. The City responded to a city wide poll. It's not really up to the City or Mayor.

At the end of the Op-Ed is a pdf chart of LA Animal Services statistics for the last two years, see link below. The chart shows intake is up 1% and live outcome is down 5%. It shows more spay neuter coupons issued but fewer redeemed. The Department has the same problems it's had for years and a few new ones. Mayor Bass isn't responsible for the actions of previous Mayors and GMs of Animal Services over the last 20 years. Dr Gary Michelson knows about all these issues and said he would solve the problem once and for all back in 2005. He's now complaining that the City didn't solve the problem he said he could and would easily solve.

I follow the Department closely and realize it's a huge problem to solve. I actually agree with most of what Michelson said in his Op-Ed about the many problems facing the Department of Animal Services and the City. It's just rich to see him complaining and blaming the City today for something he said he could easily fix back in 2005. These problems are sadly never as easy as some people believe.

Most popular posts of all time about Dr Gary Michelson, Found Animals, 20 Million Minds ... are

What are people most interested in about Dr Gary Michelson? Oddly enough it has to do with his sexual orientation, ex-lover and his specially bred purebred pitbull. I didn't expect that. On that note they are trying to make weight-pull and hang competitions illegal. They state they breed for wrong characteristics and the training is not humane. I can agree. Dr Gary Michelson's dog came from a family of weight pull champions. The post in the number five position is the transcript which proves that Dr Gary Michelson falsely accused Philip Richard Powers of fraud in Costa Rica. They investigated and found that there was no fraud.

Gary Michelson sues Mexico saying their tax law is unconstitutional. He loses. Now I've seen it all.

I'd seen this post before but I thought "nah, can't be the same Gary Michelson. Why the hell would he sue the country of Mexico?" The answer is, because he's crazy Dr. Gary frickin' Michelson, that's why. While I read, write and speak Spanish, I will let Google translate this mess for you so you don't think I'm making this shit up. Gary Michelson's lawyers need to sit him down and talk some sense into him. This is some crazy ass shit here. When the Mexican Supreme Court calls your ass "crazy," you, crazy!

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.yancuic.com/yancuic/noticia/32152&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dkarlin%2Bmichelson%26start%3D30%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1155%26bih%3D621

Dr. Gary Michelson mentally ill billionaire sues Mexico, yes, the country of Mexico.
(I will make comments in ( ) because Google translate sucks)

"Court Denies Forbes billionaire shelter to wanted to evade taxes in Mexico

Court Denies Forbes billionaire amparo

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJ) definitively denied an injunction U.S. businessman Gary Karlin Michelson, considered by Forbes magazine as one of the 400 richest men in the world, by which aimed to stop paying Tax (ISR) in some of the companies and businesses that have filed in Mexico

Thursday September 12, 2013

The published SSPDF agreement authorizing the rule governing Volunteer Program Service Lower Compensation for medical, paramedical and therapist Rescue Squad and Emergency Medical (ERUM) of the Preventive Police.

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJ) definitively denied an injunction U.S. businessman Gary Karlin Michelson, considered by Forbes magazine as one of the 400 richest men in the world, by which aimed to stop paying Tax (ISR) in some of the companies and businesses that have filed in Mexico.

Located at position 328 of the 400 wealthiest figures Forbes, Karlin Michelson requested by an injunction that declared unconstitutional articles 32 and 179 of the Income Tax Law, which limit this tax deductions and force foreigners doing business in our country to pay taxes.

However (without a doubt), the Second Chamber of the High Court ruled that the allegations presented by U.S. businessman are unfounded, arguing that the only income that is taxed foreign businessmen are those that come from its operations in the country.

The ruling also states that the physician and inventor of the American Union (US), with a fortune valued by Forbes at ($1.35 billion) $ 350 million thousand, presented no allegations sufficient to support the constitutionality of the provision.

According to Forbes, Gary Karlin Michelson is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine implants invented for the column (spine), as well as other devices of a medical nature that have yielded at least 250 patents."

I will go out on a limb here and say maybe Gary is thinking about non-profits in Mexico? Maybe somehow he wants a write off on donations to Mexican charities? I don't know. If that is his issue, this is how you handle it. My Nana gave almost everything she had to Mexican charities for poor, elderly, orphans. We donated to Catholic Daughters of America in the US. They in turn would hand over our donation to Mexico. We got the write off in the US. Or maybe he has income in Mexico and wants to write off his donations to Mexican charities?

Gary Michelson is like my uncle. Both wealthy, smart, have patents, invented some things, made a lot of money. My uncle tried to find tax shelters all the time. He told me if he just put his money in his mattress and paid his taxes, he'd have even more money. He lost his ass on tax shelters like the pusher prop plane, wind farms and others. Gary is making a ton of money and doesn't want to pay  his taxes.

In other news they spoofed Gary on an SNL skit. I'm amazed Gary didn't report Seth Meyers to the FBI for terrorist threats.

"Seth Meyers: Retired surgeon Gary Michelson is offering $75 million to the first person or group who can come up with new ways to sterilize cats and dogs. Meanwhile, cats and dogs are offering $80 million to anyone who can assassinate Gary Michelson."

I'm thinking of just telling everyone that I just inherited $2 billion dollars from my uncle. Then I will state I will give $1 billion to charity to end child hunger. I will have people giving me awards, positive press, inviting me to parties, and I just will never give a penny. I will be just like Gary Michelson, all talk.

Gary Michelson loses appeal. He's lost many appeals.

Gary Michelson lost a case against Spine-tek. He appealed and lost again. He likes to keep amending his complaint. He tried to file a third amended complaint two years after litigation started. It looks like Gary Michelson appeals everything even when he's clearly in the wrong. The appeals court affirmed the lower court's decision.

Here's another motion Gary Michelson lost. He tried to get discovery items to which he was not entitled. "Law360, Los Angeles (June 18, 2012, 4:01 PM ET) -- A California judge ruled Monday that billionaire surgical device entrepreneur Gary K. Michelson isn't entitled to sanctions or draft legal opinions Proskauer Rose LLP provided other clients detailing investments that, according to Michelson's $20 million malpractice suit, turned out to be illegal tax shelters."

Dr. Gary Michelson promised $10,000,000 to the City, gave only $160,000

Dr. Gary Michelson formed the Found Animals Foundation in late 2005. December 2005 he promised to give Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa $10,000,000 if he would hire Ed Boks. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa agreed. December 2005 Gary Michelson told LA Weekly he intends to give his $1.3B award from Medtronic to his foundations to help animals and people with back problems. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hired Ed Boks effective January 3, 2006.

I worked as a volunteer for the department of LA Animal Services from about 2000 to 2006. I think March 2006 I was paid by Gary Michelson to continue my work for the department. I worked for Gary Michelson on salary starting around February 2006 or so.

The entire time I worked for Gary Michelson and the City Ed Boks and the Mayor's office kept asking me where is the money that Gary Michelson promised. Care to guess how much of the $10,000,000 Gary Michelson gave to the City? I just looked it up in lacity.org All donations over $5,000 must be approved by City Council. Gary Michelson gave the Los Angeles Animal Services department a whopping $160,000 in 2007, 1% of what he actually promised. Not only that but this $160,000 was to make up for giving animals to New Hope groups for free. That was Gary Michelson's idea. The City was paying for the spayneuters which cost the city $160,000.

Dr. Gary Michelson loves to promise people money then he doesn't give it. If he actually gives the money he promises he won't get all the attention, affection any more. This of course causes a lot  of problems. I can't begin to tell you how many people are calling Gary Michelson a flake, besides crazy. I had non-profit animal rescue groups asking me where is the money Gary promised. At the time I truly thought he was just busy. Sometimes Gary would tell me he never promised the groups money. Unfortunately I was there when he made those promises. I finally realized Gary Michelson was a flake.

Gary Michelson claims he was defrauded, Judge disagrees

This one is a really stupid lawsuit. It reminds me of the teak farms. Gary loses no money yet still claims fraud. G. Karlin MICHELSON et al., Plaintiffs and Appellants, v. Bert S. CAMP, Defendant and Respondent.

A man wanted a loan against his property on La Cienega. Gary had it appraised. It appraised at $900K. Gary loaned about $475K on that property and a vacant lot worth $100K. The owner of the property didn't make payments and went bankrupt. The bankruptcy court orders an appraisal. The property is only worth $375K plus $35K for the vacant lot. Someone tells Gary the property is worth $1M. Gary bid $652K at the foreclosure sale. That amount is the amount of the note, foreclosure fees, attorney fees, interests, insurance...

Because Gary Michelson bid $652K on his own, that established legal "market value." Gary Michelson then sold the property for $400K at what he believes to be a loss. "Appellants stated that they had incurred $200,000 in out-of-pocket losses, which they defined to include taxes, insurance, and attorney's and foreclosure fees.   Appellants further contended they were entitled not just to out-of-pocket losses, but to loss of the “benefit of the bargain” measured by the difference between the fair market value of the property and $900,000."

This really sounds like teak farms. Judge ruled that they lost nothing. They cannot sue for "benefit of the bargain."No one forced them to bid $652K at the foreclosure sale. If anyone should have been sued here, it was the appraiser. Even then Gary didn't lose money because of the bad appraisal. He knowingly bid $652K in the foreclosure sale. He didn't have to bid at all as he was the first. He could have bid $475K or $400K or $300K. You don't have to bid the full amount. He should have also done another appraisal and not just taken someone's word for it.

Dr. Gary Michelson gets ripped off again, 1980-1986

Below is link to an appeal case for breach of contract, fraud.... Right out of Gary Michelson's residency a spine doctor by the name of JAMES S. HAMADA offered to share his medical space with Gary in 1980. As usual Gary Michelson said paraphrased "I just want to do my medical work. I don't want to handle accounting, supplies, money, payroll....you handle all of that for me, complete stranger that I've never met before and didn't even do a background check on. Feel free to steal my money, friend." Gary Michelson really sets himself up for this.

http://law.justia.com/cases/california/caapp4th/29/1566.html

Over time it seems Dr. James Hamada increases Gary's monthly allocation of expenses. It started at $11,000/mo and rose. Hamada then gets someone new to take care of the books. This new person notices some things that aren't right. Gary Michelson isn't being credited for all his income. She talks to Hamada but he does nothing in 1982. She then talks to Gary in 1983 who thinks she must be wrong. "Dr. Hamada a complete stranger whom I now think is my good friend would never rip me off." Gary talks to Hamada. Hamada fires the new accountant telling Gary that she is too stupid to understand the books. Gary believes that but takes the books home anyway thinking someone else in the office must be ripping off Hamada and Gary. Hamada flips out and demands them back. Gary then demands an accounting.

Finally Gary gets his own accountant to check the books. Gary has been ripped off for the 1,245th time and he's only been in business one year. Even though he knows he's been ripped off he continues to work with Hamada until 1986. He then sues Hamada. Gary wins, Hamada appeals, Gary basically still wins.

I went back and looked at Gerald Michelson aka Gerald Michaelson's 1965 high school year book. He seems to be the only person who was not involved in any clubs, sports or events. It just shows his home address as 1805 E. Hazzard St, Philadelphia. It also states he intends to go into "Law." He definitely got into law, just not as a lawyer. Perhaps this is why he's so litigious. He really needs to work on preventative legal tactics. This trusting people, letting people take him THEN suing them viciously is ridiculous.

I just pulled up 1805 E. Hazzard. William, Irving and Reba Michaelson used to live there. Irving could be Gary's older brother and William is his nephew? It's a 3+1 townhome 1,250 ft on 900 ft lot, worth about $12K built in 1925 14' wide lot x 68' long, two story home. It's a really dumpy neighborhood. Across the street is all boarded up. It's almost directly under the train tracks. I can see why he'd be so money driven growing up in this place. http://www.google.com/#psj=1&q=1805+e+hazzard+philadelphia+pennsylvania&safe=off Reminds me of Western Avenue. It used to be a nice middle class area and now it's a slum.

Dr. Gary Michelson patents nipples, sues women and God

Below is a search for Inventor Gary K. Michelson. You can also search for "MichaElson." He spells his name both ways.

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.htm&r=0&p=1&f=S&l=50&Query=in%2Fmichelson-gary-k&d=PTXT

I looked at a few of these inventions. He "invented" a bone chisel. It's a chisel. Just a chisel. It looks like a regular chisel. I don't get it. I've had to invent tools to feed super tiny baby mammals and I wouldn't bother patenting anything. I've even hand made, rolled micro nipples and again, no patent. Not only that but I give my ideas away for free to help animals. My manuals are also free...because I actually want to help animals and people.

Could you imagine if I were to have patented my micro feeding instruments? I could be like Dr. Gary Michelson. I would then sue the shit out of everyone who feeds baby animals. I will tell them they must pay a million dollar license and legal fees if they use "MY" design. They would all go bankrupt and be forced to let all the baby animals die. Dr. Gary Michelson would do that. He's that bitter and mean spirited. He would even patent the process, i.e. "you put food in the baby's mouth." Then if anyone put food in a baby's mouth, he could sue them. He'd be walking up to babies on the street and smacking them on the back of the head so they would spit their food out. Then he'd yell "I invented feeding! Give me money or stop feeding that baby!" He might even try to patent the acts of swallowing, digesting, breathing, your heart beating, taking a crap...

In fact, I'm amazed that he doesn't patent nipples. Then he could sue the makers of baby bottle nipples even though nipples are copied from God's design. He could even sue women who breast feed. In fact, to hell with God! Gary Michelson would run to the patent office and file the paperwork to patent nipples before God could get down there. Gary would argue that God shared his design by allowing women to run around with nipples. Gary could then sue God for using his nipple design when he made women. Gary would force God to remove nipples from women because God couldn't afford to reply to Gary's lawsuit because by now Gary controls all the money and lawyers in the world so God would lose by default.  Women would have to buy their nipples back from Gary. God would be thrown in jail for grand theft of Gary's nipple idea. Gary wins!

Gary Michelson trolls spine conventions so he can look at products on display and threaten to sue exhibitors, vendors. Now he could just go door to door to people's homes. "Ma'am, are you breast feeding in there? I'm gonna sue you if you don't pay me a license! I invented nipples! I invented the feeding process of putting food in a baby's mouth! I invented the Internet! I invented everything! Die, die, die!"

This is ironic. Dr. Gary Michelson started another foundation called "20 million minds." He wants to make pdf versions of school books and give them away for free. He says books are too expensive. Oh, you mean like spinal implants and back surgery? An author noted that Gary's patent litigation has increased the cost of spine surgery by $6,000 per surgery. Doesn't the writer, inventor "deserve" to make a shit load of money? Is Gary going to pay a license for the books or just steal the copyrighted materials? Maybe he'll hire people in India to plagiarize the books like ***does and change one word in each paragraph so he could copyright it. Then he could go back and sue the person who actually wrote the original. I think I'm starting to understand how Gary's mind works. Patents + lawyers + money + EGO = Gary K. Michelson.

UPDATE: I just searched "nipple" in patents. There are a slew of patented nipples. They are all just nipples! They are duplicates of the human design. Here's but one below. It also includes a "method of feeding a liquid." It's identical to what I made and use. Will I be sued? This whole patent idea is pretty ridiculous.

"It is intended to provide an artificial nipple, whereby a liquid feed or a test solution can be voluntarily and orally given to animals with a need for feeding such as mouse infants, a feeding bottle appropriately usable in combination with the nipple, a device for feeding a liquid comprising them, and a method of feeding a liquid. The artificial nipple is characterized by having a replaceable duct therein and having a structure preventing a liquid from piling up in the nipple except in the nipple tip and the duct, while the feeding bottle is characterized by having a replaceable tube therein."

Dr. Gary Michelson's paper clip patent - worthless and expired

Supposedly Dr. Gary Michelson's girlfriend asked him if he could invent something practical. He decided to invent a new paper clip. The original was first patented in 1888. Below is a link to his patent. One, it's expired because he didn't pay a maintenance fee. Two, it's a crappy design which is inferior to the original. Why waste the effort? Most of the claims he made are bogus. It's safer? Won't hit  you in the eye? It won't gouge the paper? It's clear that it would gouge the paper even more than the original.

http://www.google.com/patents/US4949435?dq=gary+k+michelson+paperclip&hl=en&sa=X&ei=P1UrUozeOceXiQLXx4HwCw&ved=0CDcQ6AEwAA

I have embedded the image from the patent office below. It's clear from the design that it's more likely to spring off the paper than the original. I can't believe Gary's ego is so needy that he had to go and "invent" an inferior paper clip just to show his girlfriend that he could. I wonder how many more of his inventions are also bogus. Maybe he just likes having a huge number of patents so he can feel like a genius inventor. Maybe he's going for some sort of record. There actually is a list of most prolific inventors. Gary Michelson is not on it.

I wonder how many more of his inventions are bogus or expired.

Gary Michelson and the Medtronic settlement revisited

Dr. Gary Michaelson, Karlin Technology, article about the Medtronic settlement from the New York Times.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/23/business/23medronic.html?_r=0

"Dr. Rick Sasso, a spinal surgeon from Indianapolis, said he did not think that Dr. Michelson's ideas were all totally original, but that he was very adept at getting patents. "He didn't make any of those things," Dr. Sasso said. "He didn't manufacture. He got some ideas and wrote them on a piece of paper and filed them with the patent office."

My comment: What's interesting is the threaded spinal cage wasn't his idea at all. He took it from someone else and was just the first to patent it. That's worse than a patent troll.

"Medtronic, which had previously called the jury award excessive and unjustified, on Friday portrayed its settlement as a strategic acquisition. Michael DeMane, president of Medtronic's spinal subsidiary, Sofamor Danek, said on a conference call with analysts that the patent portfolio would "enhance our leadership position."

"Mr. Viscogliosi said Medtronic's decision to buy the patents was a brilliant move because it gave the company more leverage over competitors. The deal requires an antitrust clearance from the federal government. "

My comment: Medtronic owes his some royalties then agrees to buy the rest of his patents when they realize they could control the spine industry. They spin negative news into good news and get a $10 bump on the share price. Shareholders are happy.

2008 Forbes article about Dr. Gary Michelson, revealing

This article is as accurate as any independent journalist has gotten to the true Dr Gary Michelson. It talks about Gary's bitterness about his life, growing up poor, being on his own, trying to find himself by reading "Self-Parenting" and "A Course in Miracles," his extreme hate of his "enemies," vengeance gnawing on his own leg, high blood pressure from stress, being dumped by his fiancé, fear of having kids at his advanced age, living in a mostly unfurnished home in LA... This is where Gary Michelson states that he chooses to give to a cause that "makes me feel the best." It's not about the most worth cause but his own personal feelings.

"Dr. Gary Michelson is a belligerant, serial litigator"

Here is the October 2004 issue of Orthopedic Network News. It goes into greater detail of the Medtronic, Dr. Gary Michelson lawsuit. Dr. Gary Michelson was not really the inventor of the threaded spinal cage. A horse vet made the initial cage years earlier and presented it at a human spine conference. Another doctor suggested adding threads to keep it from dislodging. These people actually built and used the threaded cage design before Gary Michelson was on the scene. It looks like Gary Michelson was just the first to patent it with a diagram and description. Gary didn't build or use one until seven years after he filed the patent. It appears Gary heard about this design from the spine symposium and decided to file the patent. First to file is first to own the patent.

"Dr.
Michelson is a belligerent and intimidating serial litigator who

has parlayed his knowledge of the US patent system into almost

a billion dollars from the spine industry in the form of royalties

and legal judgments."

Dr. Gary Michelson made clandestine recordings of his conversations with Medtronic. The article also states that

"By putting information about the

cage in a public forum, he abandoned certain intellectual

property rights to his invention."

Seems a horse vet actually invented the first spinal cage but he presented his idea at a public forum thereby making it impossible for him to patent the idea. It also seems that because Gary Michelson described a method for inserting his cage, he owns claim to anything that is inserted be it a threaded cage or not. In the end this just costs the patient more money.

Just as I thought. Gary Michelson didn't really invent the threaded spinal cage. He was just first to patent it because he is familiar with the patent application. Because he also included a description of the method of introducing it, he owns the patent on any other item someone invents that is inserted in the spine. The full article is not that long and it's very interesting. It's linked above.

Gary Karlin Michelson's patents cost patients money, deter innovation but feed the ego

A writer who specializes in spinal products wrote an article in Orthopedic Network News about Gary Michelson's $1.3 billion settlement in 2005. An interesting take on the issue. The only person helped by the settlement is Gary Michelson and Medtronic. Patients are paying extra. Because of his patents, other people may be blocked who happened to be developing similar things. In essence this gives Gary Michelson and Medtronic a monopoly on the market. It also will deter others from inventing something new for fear a court may decide it's slightly similar to Gary's design or description. Gary obviously did not invent these things to help patients.

http://spine.orthopedicnetworknews.com/archives/onn164s5.pdf

"However, an alternative view of the $1.3 billion award may be

that it is an “investment” from Medtronic’s point of view. They

may simply see this as a business investment—if Michelson’s

patents become enforceable, they can use them to block other

entrants into the spinal market or secure royalty payments. For

example, since Michelson (now Medtronic) owns a patent for

the preparation of the intervertebral space for a interbody fusion

device, it is possible Medtronic will use this patent against any

company that has an interbody fusion device or even artificial

disc, and either extract a royalty from them, or prevent them

from bringing new products to the market. In either case, the net

result may be higher prices to hospitals and less “innovative”

companies."

It appears that as part of the settlement Gary Michelson asked for stickers to be put on all products made with his patents to "secure his legacy." That is truly conceited. Who needs their name on nuts and bolts used in spinal surgery?

In order

to secure his legacy among spine surgeons, hospital administrators,

patients, and plaintiff attorneys, Medtronic now places

stickers on all the implants in which Dr. Michelson has patent

ownership. These are designed similar to those of the produce

industry which pioneered the use of the “P-Seals.” These are

self-adhesive stickers that one finds at the supermarket attached

to vegetables and fruits in the

produce section. Medtronic

Sofamor Danek now “proudly

displays” the Michelson logo

“Michelson technology at

work” on the sides of boxes

which use any of Michelson’s

patents.

Based on what I've read people in the spine industry and doctors don't like Dr. Gary Michelson. His main goal is to sue people for infringement. I personally feel Gary Michelson has a lot of inner hate. He states his father called him an "idiot" and "stupid." He said his dad divorced his mom when he was 11. He states his mother didn't give him as much attention as his older brothers which is why he did poorly in school. He states she only gave his older brothers affection because she basically had nothing better to do making it sound like she hated kids. He states he failed in school but his teachers passed him just to get rid of him. I was told he was a psychology major in under grad. This would explain a lot. Again, I'm posting what I read in other articles and online Google books. These things were said by Gary Michelson or written by others. I believe I've posted direct links.

Forbes list of billionaires is not independently verified

I always knew the Forbes list of wealthiest people in the world was not etched in stone. There really is no way for them to know how much money these people have with holding companies, art collections, jewelry, gifts, private stashes of cash... They call up the person and just ask them how much money they have.

People have lied to Forbes in order to get on the list. They want on the list for their ego. I'm not saying every billionaire on the list is a megalomaniac like Gary Michelson who might lie to get on the list. Some refuse to verify. In those cases Forbes bases their wealth on public holdings.

Gary Michelson has a lot of holding companies that are private. There is no way they can independently verify his net wealth without asking him. I have a feeling they call him up and just ask him. Note that Gary Michelson told Forbes "I'm single and good looking." Who says that, even if they are single and good looking? That's truly a conceited thing to say especially to Forbes who will be repeating it.

I remember the story about Prince Alwaleed who lied to Forbes to get on the list. http://www.forbes.com/sites/bruceupbin/2013/07/04/in-london-trial-prince-alwaleed-blasts-libyans-gets-accused-of-lying-in-order-to-sell-a-plane/

He went so far as to supposedly "adjust" the share value of his holdings right before the list comes out to inflate the value so he could make the list. If you take a look at the entire list of billionaires, there are few sane people on the list. There are also some truly horrible drug lords, militant rulers on the list. I personally think this list is not a good idea. Being a billionaire is not really a good thing in the real world. It causes some crazy people to aspire to be on the list.

Review of Gary Michelson Found Animals Foundation pet registry

I finally had time to take a look at his pet microchip registry. I doubt this will be helping animals. I would bet money he'll probably release some news stating his registry helped reunite a lost pet with their owner. There will be happy photos of someone holding a dog. He will hope the happy news will cause people to register their chip in his registry. Below I outline the problems with his registry.

One, the registry does not include all microchip records from any or all microchip companies. So far this is something a regular person would have to know about and then register their own chip information.

Two, Gary Michelson is selling the pet and owner data to advertisers. It says so in his terms of service.

Three, his terms of service outline the problems with the registry. Not all pet owners will register their old or new chips.

Four, not all finders of lost pets will check the registry. Finders need scanners unless the chip is on a pet ID tag on the animals collar. If the chip number is on the collar, their name and phone number would be there as well. No need for the registry.

Five, he makes no warranties about his service, website, ability to contact owners or if the website will even exist in the future.

Six, people need to keep their data current. Most people with current chips don't do this. Someone who keeps their data current probably has a collar with ID on the animal.

I will test the registry and see if it even works. I personally feel this is just a means for Gary Michelson to sell the data for money. He probably also did it for positive press.

UPDATE: Just tested the registry. I put in my chip which I registered and it found it. The problem is the registry will not notify the owner of the animal that you found their pet unless you sign up and make an account. People may not want to make an account just to possibly return someone's pet. I guess you could put in fake data except the phone number but I'm sure it will demand a real email.

On that note Gary Michelson said he started the Found Animals Foundation to use HIS money to help animals. Why is he, a billionaire, asking for donations? Why does he charge for people to attend his forums? Why is he selling registry data to advertisers? Why does he want to make money off a patent for a sterilant? If I had such a drug, I would give it to the world for free and I'm not a billionaire. I could use the money.
