Dr Gary Michelson bought the naming rights of a building at USC. In exchange for $50,000,000 USC put his name on the building. USC also gave him two honorary degrees, many parties, custom cakes, lots of press,
a website, marching band, photo ops and many mentions in their newsletters and websites. Gary is declaring this as a "donation" to USC. As USC is a non-profit Gary Michelson can write off half of what he donated minus anything he received in return such as gifts, professional press campaign and the naming rights. Building naming rights actually have value.
Gary really needed a tax write off. In 2001
Gary bought $121,000,000 worth of tax shelters from Ernst & Young. The IRS stated this was tax evasion. The IRS did not allow those shelters. IRS assessed additional taxes in the amount of $48,000,000 plus a $20,000,000 fine. Gary sued Proskauer for giving him bad tax advice. Gary lost that lawsuit, appealed, lost, appealed, lost.
All naming rights agreements have moral clauses. If the behavior of the donor or school threatens to harm the reputation of the other, the contract is generally voided. With this in mind I will share some very aberrant behavior of Gary Michelson.
I worked for Gary Michelson and the City of Los Angeles in 2006. I've been to Gary's house a few times and spent hours on the phone with him. I know the other people who worked at his foundations. I have no gag order.
In 2006 Gary Michelson who is a homosexual per court documents came on to his then employee. The employee refused Gary's advances. As revenge Gary told me he filed a police report against him stating he embezzled money from Gary. Gary said he reported him to the police and he would soon be arrested.
Later Gary said LAPD is not going after his employee. Gary asked me to ask then Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to tell the LAPD to arrest him. I relayed that message. LAPD was contacted by the Mayor's office. The detectives said there was no evidence of any crime. They stated Gary was a "liar" and "crazy."
By this time the employee heard what Gary said about him. He hired an attorney and sued Gary for defamation besides interference with his business. Gary personally called his employee's business partners and told them he would soon be arrested. I was a witness in that case. Gary instantly settled that case for a nice sum of money I assume on 12/18/2007.

In that complaint it is stated that Gary offered then Mayor Villaraigosa $10,000,000 if the Mayor hired Ed Boks. The Mayor hired Boks. Gary only ended up giving a small amount of money which upset the Mayor. The Mayor's office asked me where was the rest of the money. They finally realized that Gary makes a lot of promises that he doesn't keep. The $10,000,000 amount is mentioned in the above lawsuit linked above.
The city eventually had to fire Ed Boks because he made mistake after mistake. I ended up having to sue the city for sexual harassment and unlawful termination. I received a settlement in exchange for a dismissal of the case. I refused to sign a gag order. Daily news covered it though there are mistakes in this article.

Later Gary's long time friend Neil Campbell left Gary to marry a woman and have a baby. Gary decided he would contract out for a "wife" and do the same but the woman left him. He became engaged to another woman who she called it off after a physical situation. Gary sued her to get the ring back.
By now Gary was very upset that Neil left him.
He decided to file a false civil complaint against him saying he and his business friend embezzled money from him. Neil and his friend Philip did not steal any money from Gary. They in fact made him a $35,000,000 profit on teak farms in Costa Rica. After Gary sued them they even offered to have a client buy the land for twice what Gary paid for it but Gary refused. They couldn't afford to reply to the lawsuit and lost by default to the tune of about $25,000,000 to $35,000,000 each.
Gary was still not satisfied. Gary knew the LAPD would refuse his false report. He decided to skip the LAPD and contact the ex
DA Steve Cooley who now runs a "justice consulting" business. Criminal cases always must start with LAPD then they go to the DA if there is enough evidence.
Wealthy people give Cooley lots of money in "consulting fees." Cooley then just calls up his almost self-appointed current DA Jackie Lacey. Even though there was absolutely no evidence of any theft
Lacey had Gary's boyfriend Neil and his business friend Philip Powers arrested and thrown in LA County jail case #BA409225. Later in the trial Gary admitted that he took Cooley and then current DA office to lunch to thank them for arresting and charging his ex-boyfriend. Cooley then invited Gary to stand with the Sheriff Dept in a press release. Gary then gave Cooley an award.
Of the 150 original charges of theft only five remained come trial time. In the end Neil and Philip were only found guilty of one charge of about $900 theft. They were released from jail with time served and placed on probation. Gary was fuming mad that they did not go to prison. He was yelling at the Deputy DA in the courthouse. I was present at the trial and have the entire transcript.
Gary then decides to bribe people in Costa Rica to reopen the criminal case.
Neil and Philip were found not guilty of theft in Costa Rica. That is a link to the official translation of the official transcript. Gary's money made its way into the "right" hands and the case was just reopened. Rex Tillerson just signed an extradition order for Philip to go to Costa Rica. The case will be heard in January 2018.
In the meantime Gary's ex-friend is now very ill. Gary still keeps dragging a penniless dying man to court hearing after court hearing.
I would think any of the above behavior would violate the morals clause in USC's naming agreement yet there is still more. People have met Alya Michelson Gary's "wife" from Russia. Gary proudly told everyone that she was an arranged "marriage" from Russia. He bragged that for this reason she can't leave him.

These are not model photos. That is Alya's real name i.e., Alevtina Shchepetina, Алевтина Щепетина. Her profile says translated into English "I will make you lucky." Gary took advantage of a young woman who wanted to come to the US. This shows huge disrespect for women and their worth. The fact that Gary viciously attacks any man who refuses his advances or leaves him shows that he's a predator who uses his money and power to harm people.
What else has USC been giving Michelson in exchange for his millions? Notice that Luke Dauchot Gary's lawyer is now an Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at USC teaching a class on IP law. Notice he has no research papers in his profile. He is only a lawyer. I wonder what else USC gave Gary in exchange for his millions?
