They haven't broken ground for Gary Michelson USC center - No permits or plans on file. Gary fooled again.

Here is a map which shows they haven't even broken ground for the Gary Michelson building yet. Zoom in to #10 intersection of McClintock and Child's Way. They say they will start June 2015 and finish August 2017. I highly doubt that. They suckered Gary into giving the money to "break ground" back in January. All the other "ground breakings" were actually on dirt, not a parking lot. I think Gary wanted to give the money before the criminal trial was over. I think USC needed his money to finish University Village.

I had to search just to find out where it might be built. "The center that bears his name lays the foundation for a new collaboration between the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. Appropriately, it will be nestled between facilities for both schools — just west of the Dornsife Neuroscience Pavilion and north of the Olin Hall of Engineering."

"Off McClintock between Childs Way and Downey. They will be demolishing those old human resource buildings. The majority of the parking lot in that area will be turned into a court yard."

This contractor hasn't even started the design yet. None of the contractors, architects, engineers even state they're working on it. It's still in the "design" phase as per USC.

USC already built a building for the same purpose as the Michelson Center. Obviously, USC lied to Gary Michelson just to get his money. I wonder if he gave the money in a lump sum. Pretty stupid if he did.

I checked LA City Building and Safety.I just found the demo permit for end of 2014. Address is 1012-1014 Childs Way, Los Angeles, CA 90089. They only have a demo permit finalized to tear down two buildings by hand. They are about 7,500 sf in two floors. They submitted an application for a four story building with a basement for 177,620 sf.  of office space, not 190,000 sf. Research labs are in the basement. Nothing has been approved. They won't be breaking ground in June. I don't see anything approved except the new USC Village. Notice in the ground breaking they had dirt in a wood frame on a cemented area. 

USC obviously realizes Gary Michelson is a huge fool who never researches anything. I bet his buddy David Cohen got a commission for hauling the big fish in for USC.

As I look at the buildings they are tearing down they are all for free services for elderly, local kids, poor people. These buildings and offices have already been named. What will happen to all these programs, named buildings and offices? This looks like USC getting rid of services they promised to provide to local children and people in exchange for lax building rights. They are now reselling the building naming rights to Gary Michelson. This building is far away from the center of USC and where most people are. No one will be able to see his name on this building.

Gary Michelson hired some kid to videotape the ground breaking of the USC center

Dr Gary Michelson instructed the Michelson Medical nonprof to make a movie of the ground breaking for the USC center. I went to USC. Knew people in the band. Knew the Deans. Know how hard they try to kiss ass to get money. Watching this pathetic display caused my eyes to almost roll out of my head. The shitty video with the back up noise of construction vehicles. The pathetic horrible hair swoop of Max Nikias. His horrible slaughtering, mispronunciations of everyone's names because he doesn't give a shit. Their fake laughs, fake applause. The USC band leading Gary into the tent. The reading of a horrible speech by David Cohen. Band members chewing gum or tobacco. Alya being introduced as Gary's wife "not a model but she looks like one." Gary didn't even sit near her. She had a white bra strap showing while wearing a black dress. It was all so fake and staged on so many levels.

Gary got up there and said the government doesn't do any research. He has to pay to do the research to help people. Things could not be further from the truth. If you have 20 minutes to waste, take a gander. Fast forward to when they start speaking.

Dr. Gary Michelson has not kept any of his promises to animals or people

I decided to take a trip down memory lane and dig up the original promises Dr. Gary Michelson made to animals, people and the City of Los Angeles. I wonder if Gary Michelson even remembers the promises he made.

In 2005 soon after winning the $1.35B settlement with Medtronic Dr. Gary Michelson told LA Weekly write Robert Greene that he would give all the money away, i.e. "There was nothing to do with that much money, the surgeon-inventor said, but give it away. Usefully. He set up the Medical Research Foundation Trust (and Found Animals Foundation). "

Gary Michelson said he would instantly give $10,000,000 to sterilize and microchip every animal in Los Angeles, i.e. "The surgeon’s role would be through a foundation that is prepared to raise and donate $10 million to get dogs and cats sterilized and microchipped." He didn't do that.

Gary Michelson said he would make Los Angeles a "nokill" City, i.e. "If that (kill vs nokill) is about to change, as animal advocates hope, it will be not only because of Boks and Villaraigosa, but because of a third man who is donating his genius(?) and opening(?) his rather substantial pocketbook in an effort to make spaying, neutering, microchipping and (for dogs) licensing practically universal in Los Angeles.That man — spinal surgeon and billionaire inventor Gary Karlin Michelson — said he has thought through L.A.’s animal problem and has established a foundation that is prepared to pay to have every pet in the city fixed and tracked. A series of serendipitous events that began just months ago put Michelson in touch with Boks and then Villaraigosa, helped lead to Boks’ hiring here and made Michelson a key player in the latest effort to overhaul the way the city handles wanted and unwanted pets.“What we’re going to do is going to be just amazing,” Michelson told the Weekly. “We are going to succeed. We are going to succeed spectacularly.”" He most certainly did not succeed. He failed. Euthanasia went up and not down under Ed Boks. Ed Boks was fired in disgrace. Antonio Villaraigosa was termed out as a failure to keep his promises. Gary Michelson just failed.

Gary Michelson said he would offer a $75M Michelson Prize and grants for a one shot permanent sterilization for cats, dogs. He didn't do that. How much of the $1.35B has Dr. Gary Michelson given to help animals and people since 2005? $3-5M or .003% Below is a link to the full article. Gary Michelson reinvents the wheel and sues original wheel inventor

"No need to reinvent the wheel" is a common phrase. It of course means why make a new product when you already have a fine product. This is similar to Gary Michelson's Prize not to mention his silly paperclip patent. He is offering $25M for a one dose sterilant for male, female, cats and dogs and another $50M for research into said product. We already have drugs that do that. Why reinvent the wheel? In this case if Gary reinvents the wheel he can force all wheel inventors to pay him a license or stop making wheels. He can sell his wheel and make money just like the threaded spinal cage patent. It's all about putting more money in Gary's pocket. Let me explain.

Right now we have drugs that will permanently sterilize animals. They've already been tested. The drugs were invented, discovered, made many years ago by other people. Gary Michelson knew this before he offered his "Prize." Gary does not care about ending pet overpopulation. He is fine watching millions of animals being needlessly born, living short inhumane lives, dying on their own on the street or killed in an animal shelter. He could be using his money to buy and administer the known drugs to stop the insanity of pet overpopulation...but he chooses not to do so.

Instead Gary Michelson the money hoarder decides to offer a "Prize" for a one dose sterilant. The catch is "He" must be able to patent then sell it for profits. Gary dangles a prize so people can make even more money for him. Gary is a money hoarder. While he may not buy expensive cars, yachts, jewelry, he does like having, controlling a lot of money. Perhaps because he grew up poor money has always been his main goal. In fact I bet he got into spine surgery because it's lucrative. I now don't believe he got into spine surgery to help his granny's old back. His high school year book in 1965 said he wanted to be a lawyer, not a doctor. Plus, he was a psychology major in undergrad, not pre-med.

Gary Michelson is hoping to patent and sell his own drug for profits. I believe he is trying to knock off human sterilants as animal sterilants. He is trying to reinvent the wheel. That is why when I spoke to Abbott Laboratory who makes Lupron they said they will change their label, patent to say it can also be used as an animal sterilant. This way Gary Michelson can't be a patent troll with their patent. If Gary were to have made a drug one molecule, ingredient, element off and stated it was to sterilize animals, he could get the patent. It has to be a new drug with a different purpose. This way if a company such as Lupron were to start selling their human sterilant as an animal sterilant Gary could sue them or ask for a licensing fee. 

Dr. Gary Michelson's "Michelson Prize," not really a prize at all

As soon as I heard about Dr. Gary Michelson's Prize of $75,000,000 in 2008, I submitted my entry. I'd been studying permanent and temporary animal sterilization for years. I concentrated my research on the main causes of infertility/sterility, intentional and unintentional. These drugs came from that research. These drugs already exist and have been approved by the FDA. These drugs are owned by other companies. You can legally and effectively sterilize cats and dogs right now with these drugs used off label. Off-label use of human drugs for animals is approved. In fact they already tested them on animals, i.e. rats, rabbits, cats and dogs in order to be approved for human use. We already know the dose that will make rats, bunnies, cats and dogs permanently sterile.

When Dr. Gary Michelson initially offered the Prize it was for a drug that could permanently sterilize male, female, cats and dogs with one dose. That was it. I have a copy of the initial prize offering saved.

After others and I submitted our ideas he changed things. First, he stated he owned all prize entries. That means everyone gave him their ideas for free. Second, he will only give the prize if the NEW drug can be patented so he can sell it for profit. 

He has drugs that will permanently sterilize animals but he doesn't want to use them. If he cared about animals, sterilizing them would be the most important thing. Why does he have to own the drug and sell it for profit? I could offer a prize of $1 billion dollars to anyone who can give me a chemical which can turn dog shit into gold. Obviously the value of such a chemical would be worth more than the prize money. This is basically what Dr. Gary Michelson has done with this prize. 

Below is my entry in email format. I sent a longer more detailed one in paper format. I offered him five drugs.

I have submitted three entries which are one shot injections which cause permanent sterility in cats/dogs. They are currently FDA approved and legal to use off-label with cats/dogs. I have submitted two others which are legal to use in research. I would need to test these chemicals only to determine the amount at which they will cause permanent sterility in cats/dogs.

APPLICATION FOR MICHELSON PRIZE AND GRANT FROM FOUND ANIMALS FOUNDATION 

Single dose substance given to male and female cats and dogs to cause permanent sterilization 

1. LUPRON Lupron is a synthetic hormone. When it is administered, the body stops producing testosterone hormones in males and estrogen hormones in females. Lupron is used in the treatment of prostate cancer in men, early puberty in children, anemia (due to uterine fibroid tumors) in women and ovarian or breast cancer in women. It is generally given to humans in a series of three shots to keep a lower amount of the drug in the system so as not to cause permanent sterility. If given in a single more concentrated injection, it will cause permanent sterility. Already approved by FDA. Can currently be used off -label for animals. 

2. INDENOPYRIDINE CDB-4022

Research has been done on male mice, rats and dogs with indenopyridine. In low dosages it causes reversible sterility. In higher dosages the sterility is permanent.

3. PIPECOLINOMETHYLHYDROXYINDANE

A single oral dose of DL-6-(N--pipecolinomethyl)-5-hydroxy-indane maleate caused subnormal fertility in the male rat. Sterility ensued from the 5th week and persisted to the termination of the experiment 20 weeks after dosing. 

4. TESTOSTERONE

Testosterone injected into the neonatal female rat, and leading to sterility and ovarian malfunction, does not act at the level of the anterior pituitary, which retains the ability to function normally. It is considered that it may act upon the central nervous system to cause a disturbance of the gonadotrophin-releasing mechanism. Currently FDA approved, can be used off-label for animals.

5. DEPOPROVERA

Depoprovera causes three months of s terility in human females. Given in low dosages it causes tempor ary sterility in males. Currently used as "chemical castration." Given in higher dosages to female and male animals causes permanent sterility. Currently FDA approved, can be used off-label for animals.

Permanent sterility was noted in research use of these already approved drugs. They were the unintended effects of drugs meant to cause temporary sterility in humans. Researchers tested higher levels of the drugs in order to find the correct dosage to cause temporary sterility in humans. More research is needed on the effect of these drugs on cats and dogs as permanent sterilants. The research could be funded by a grant from the Found Animals Foundation. After I sent in my entry Dr. Gary Michelson notified me that the drug has to be new and he has to be able to patent it and sell it for profit. A lawyer said I could have sued him for changing the rules but I passed. Lawyers who have sued him and won said he and his lawyers are unethical and ruthless.

But that's not the end of the story, not by a long shot. After I submitted these drugs Dr. Gary Michelson sends out news June 2010 stating he's going to be developing drugs in house. He hired researchers. He basically stated his team of researchers is going to try to knock off the drugs I gave him so he can patent and sell them. They were the exact same family of drugs, i.e. gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. Lupron was one of the drugs in the family he was basically going to knock off. Another reason he wants a drug he can own is for his ego. He wants to be able to say "I made a drug that can permanently sterilize cats and dogs!" From his website.

From an article online, "Since January 2009, 33 grant proposals have been reviewed and seven of those have been recommended for funding for a total of $3.5 million. The three primary technologies represented by grant applications to date include: immunization against GnRH (a hormone that promotes testosterone release in males and the ovarian cycle in females), targeted delivery of cytotoxins to pituitary or gonadal cells, and essentially “turning off” genes that are required for reproduction."

When I heard about this I contacted the makers of Lupron Abbott and sent them Dr. Gary Michelson's press release. I told them he's probably going to try to knock off Lupron so he can own a similar patent and sell it for profit. Their main researcher at Abbott told me they were going to add "animal sterilization" as an off-label use to their patent and label so he can't knock it off. They already did the research on animals and know the exact amount that will cause permanent sterilization. I asked for a license so I could purchase it more affordably but they said no. They told me I can legally use the drug right now to permanently sterilize cats and dogs.

Dr. Gary Michelson dangles $75,000,000 in front of people so they will give him their ideas for free. He doesn't award the prize to anyone. He instead takes these free ideas and develops them in house so he can own the drug and say he made it. He doesn't even develop new drugs. He's trying to knock off existing drugs. 

Many articles have called Dr. Gary Michelson a "patent troll." From online articles "From all available information, (medical) doctor Michelson is a quintessential "patent troll" of the worst variety - not producing anything other than "paper patents" and extorting huge sums of money from poor large manufacturers of real goodies...
Go figure..."

He basically knocks off other people's patents by making one tiny obvious change then he patents that. Then he can sell the patent or let people use it then sue them for patent infringement. The articles are online. This is basically how he made his money.

In the article below Dr. Gary Michelson supposedly wrote this letter. I doubt it because Dr. Gary Michelson has never written anything. I think someone else wrote it and he just signed it. I would think Dr. Gary Michelson is smart enough to know the letter makes him sound like an idiot, i.e. "our patent system is great as it is. It must therefore be reformed." Doesn't make any sense. His analogy about patents creating jobs is also seriously flawed, i.e. "the invention of the word processor probably replaced 19 typing positions." Jobs were lost, not gained.

*I originally posted this information in 2009. I just reposted it and updated it. I have the original PR where Found Animals Foundation states they are doing in-house research into a Lupron-like drug. I also have print outs of the original website and prize offering besides the email I received stating that it has to be a new drug they can patent.
