The Found Animals Foundation just sent an email saying they're doing "Great!" Gary has allegedly invested $100,000,000 in lots of research projects to find a one dose permanent sterilant for cats, dogs. It's been 11 years and he still hasn't found one. He keeps giving grants for needless experiments. The doctors beg for the grants to get the money. They have no goal to find a sterilant. If they did, there wouldn't be any more grants. Gary then blasts other researchers who do needless experiments just to get grants. Meanwhile there are already FDA approved drugs he could buy and use to sterilize the animals. He instead insists of spending lots of money to try to find a new one so he can patent it and make money. The patent and money are the true goals of Dr Gary Michelson. He obviously doesn't really care about the animals.
The email told everyone to read this nice article the Jewish Journal wrote about him back in March. I don't have a problem with the Jewish Journal writing the article. They wrote what he told them to write. They are a great periodical.
http://www.jewishjournal.com/cover_story/article/dr._gary_k._michelson_inventor_and_life_saver
The Jewish Journal of course wants some of Gary's money, another reason for the article. From the article, "Asked why he has not made Jewish charities a focus of his work, Michelson said, “To me, that’s like a small-world view of things. It’s never occurred to me to ask what religion people are." Remember this line folks in case anyone ever asks you to donate to a religious cause. Gary will continue to dangle his money in front of people hoping to get praise like this article.
My issue with the article is the grandma story. It keeps changing getting more dramatic with every telling. He has since added a new story about how he was able to not get kicked out of med school when he refused to needlessly operate on an animal. In the story he found a way to use a little girl's rib to repair a leg injury so she wouldn't need her leg amputated. This changed the school's mind about kicking him out. Doctors have been doing bone grafts for years using ribs. He's not that old. The med school also wanted his tuition money. I doubt he would have been kicked out for not operating on a dog. He previously stated he refused to operate on a dog in med school. The "almost got kicked out" is a new part to the story. His miracle save is also new. And heaven forbid he not slam his parents some more, he states that his mom and dad were violent and would hit him. His only friend was the family dog. Oddly his brothers had a fine relationship with the mom, don't know about the dad who is now deceased.
The article ends with this.
“What do I want on my tombstone?” he said. “ ‘He made a difference. He tried to change the world, and to leave it a little bit better.’”
That won't be his legacy. His legacy will be as a man with no friends, no family except the new wife, kids he bought who don't like him. He'll be known as a man who thinks the world has cheated him, taken advantage of him. He is a man consumed by vengeance against others who just didn't want to be his friend because he's unstable, crazy and not very nice. He'll be known as the man who stole his main "invention" from a horse veterinarian. He'll be known as a man who publicly brags about his "big hands" any chance he gets with an evil smile. Based on my experience that generally means an inverse relationship. It also shows his major insecurities besides his juvenile psyche. He's 67 years old. He'll also be known as a man in turmoil over his closeted homosexual status. Can't come out when you come from a conservative Russian Jewish family from the east coast. Everyone knows. It's even been in public court documents.
He won't be known for helping the world. He filed patents to make money not to help people. If he wanted to help people, he'd make his patents free. That would probably save $50,000 on each back surgery. People would be able to afford the surgery if he hadn't patented the horse vet's invention. Benjamin Franklin was a renown inventor who actually helped the world because he didn't patent anything. Franklin stated that patents don't help society. Patents are for people only interested in money and ego. That is Gary Michelson. Gary even had the nerve to make that ridiculous video where he states he has one fewer patent than Benjamin Franklin. That would mean he has -1 patent. Gary wants people to think he's as bright as Franklin. How dumb does someone have to be to not realize Franklin made thousands of inventions but he had zero patents intentionally. If I could invent something that would save people's lives, I'd give it away for free. Any sane person would.

Gary Michelson family tree, ancestry, mother Ellin G Karlin, father Norman G Michelson, Russia Hungary Poland

| Gary Michelson, family tree, ancestry, ellin karlin, norman michelson, jewish, heritage, philadelphia, pennsylvania |
Norman's brother's wife Zelda Cohen Michelson went into business with Norman's wife Ellin. The business was called ELEGANTRIES and was formed in Philadelphia in 1957. I assume it was an apparel business as Ellin's family was in the clothing business.
Norman Michelson's parents were Hyman "Herman" Michelson 1886-1953 from Russia and Sadie Stein 1887 from Hungary. They were all Jewish. Norman divorced Ellin approximately 1960. He was married to Louise Jane Gross from 1970 to 1973 in Florida. In 1975 Norman married Rea Dashefsky in Florida. They were married when he died in 2000. Rea Dashefsky died in 2011.
Below is the death certificate of Gary Michelson's grandfather Herman Michelson. He died of hereditary Huntington's disease and also had Arteriosclerosis. He was confined to a home for the last year of his life. Huntington's also affects the mind.

Everyone knows Gary Michelson STOLE his only valuable patent the threaded spinal cage - Forbes billionaire
![]() |
| Dr Gary Michelson threaded spinal cage verses Dr George Bagby basket made 20 years earlier |
I knew that Gary Michelson stole his only valuable invention the threaded spinal cage from a horse veterinarian. I read about it in an orthopedic magazine. I didn't realize that this fact is very widely known. The original doctors just wanted to save the life of a horse. They weren't looking at money. Bagby made and used one of his first baskets in 1977. This is 20 years BEFORE Gary Michelson patented the device. In fact Gary Michelson patented the device without actually making or using it. It wasn't developed and used until later. Gary Michelson merely stole Bagby's idea and ran to the patent office before he and a human doctor could patent it. This invention is the one that made Gary all the money.

"Orthopedics and Veterinary Medicine History It’s not unheard of to have orthopedic innovations come from veterinary medicine. The first interbody cage, “Bagby’s Basket” was invented by George Bagby, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon several decades ago. It was used on Triple Crown Winner Seattle Slew, who had been diagnosed with “Wobbler’s Syndrome.” Bagby worked with a veterinary specialist and implanted his “basket” into Seattle Slew’s spine and packed it with the horse’s own bone graft. Hence, the first fusion of a spine using a cage. Stephen Kuslich, M.D., then converted the cage for human use. Gary Michelson, M.D. later patented the cages used by Medtronic plc today."
Here's a great article about the evolution of the interbody device the spinal cage.

Gary Michelson of Found Animals Foundation is a story teller
When I first heard about Gary Michelson in 2006 I did some research and saved my data to a folder. I dug up the folder. I have been comparing what he said in the past to what he's saying now. He is a bit of a story teller. Some of these things are not important like when he recently said he has 35 full time employees at Found Animals Foundation when his tax return shows five to seven.
The real story that seems to have changed over time is the story about his grandmother with the spine condition. In 2005 he said she merely could not feel hot and cold. He said he once saw her burn herself on the stove. In 2007 the story gets more theatrical. She supposedly for some silly reason placed her hand on the lit stove and burned herself. In 2012 it gets even more dramatic. She places her hand on the lit stove for some reason and her hand is on fire. She has to extinguish it.
From 2005: "Michelson remembers watching his grandmother laying her hand on a hot stove and burning herself because of a spinal deformity which did not allow her to feel hot or cold in her extremities. At that moment, the door opened when his grandmother told him he would be a doctor one day, and he did."
From 2011: "Michelson vividly recalls the childhood event in Philadelphia that set him on his path to medicine: His grandmother suffered from a crippling spinal deformity that made it impossible for her to distinguish between hot and cold in her extremities. One day she was in her kitchen preparing lunch for him when he smelled something bitter. His grandmother's hand, touching the stove's flame, had caught fire without her knowing. Michelson screamed. His grandmother doused her hand in water and delivered the words that would change his life."

"She said, 'You'll be a back doctor and you'll fix this for me,' " he recalled. "I was probably in second or third grade."
It sounds to me like Gary made up part of this story or at least embellished it. Nerve damage can cause one to lose the ability to sense hot and cold. It would not cause someone with such nerve damage to stupidly put their hand on a lit stove while they are cooking. Never damage does not cause stupidity. It also wouldn't cause blindness or the inability to smell something burning. Burning flesh does not smell bitter. I also find it hard to believe her hand is on fire, little Gary screams, she douses the flames with water, carries on as if nothing happened telling him he'll be a back doctor some day. He makes his grandma sound like Fire Marshall Bill.
It would be possible for one to burn their hand on a lit stove. It is not possible for one's hand to be on fire from touching a lit stove. You would have to leave your hand in the flame for a while or have lighter fluid, oil on your hand to actually catch fire. Even when monks light themselves on fire they need to douse themselves with gasoline, lighter fluid. I have made banana flambé before on the stove in a pan. You need super hot butter, 1 oz of accelerant (rum) then a lit match to get it to ignite. Even if you get too big a flame by using 2 oz of rum, the fire is short lived. At most you would burn the hair off your arm if you had any.
A last note. His grandmother said he would "fix this for me." He didn't. I don't believe he's fixed it for anyone. So far it seems he made a bunch of patents just so he can sue people to make money. If he really cared about helping them, he'd be sharing his patents, data. He'd open a hospital and provide free back surgery to crippled people.
I will be posting more about what Gary Michelson tells people and the actual truth. I used to believe every word when I first met him. After realizing he was lying I stopped believing everything. Now I barely believe anything he says. He's living in his own reality world where he's the brilliant philanthropic hero when that is not the case. Many writers and others have pointed this out in articles and lawsuits over many years.
