Found Animals Foundation pet adoption, microchip registry not doing well

Someone posted on Facebook asking about Found Animals Foundation. The next thing I know I see a ton of complaints. The biggest complaint is that their chip registry is a waste of time. If you register a pet, it goes missing, animal control contacts to get the owner's info, they don't give the info. Pets can't be reunited. Everyone is upset that the data is wrong, owner isn't contacted and rescue groups can change ownership without showing any proof of change of ownership or contacting the owner.

Some people said they were told that Gary stated that he's collecting all this data on pet owners to use the data. I remember years ago that he'd talked about selling access to the data to pet related businesses. City people complained because he gave the city the chips but they had to sign up through his registry. The city was giving Gary all the data on city adopted and owned pets.

Just recently I heard that he told politicians that he's collecting all this data on pet owners which could be used to campaign in elections. I don't know if he's really doing that but it sounds like something he would say. I remember when he used to talk on the phone with me for hours about his different ideas. Some were way out there.

Later on down the thread people complained that he has a very high turnover of employees. They get over worked and stressed and quit. Others said his pet adoption consultants were just told to get the animals adopted. They weren't trained in making sure the animal was a good fit for a person. They give first time adopters difficult pets with issues.

Based on what I know Gary Michelson started Found Animals Foundation for his ego and for the attention. That is why he started the Michelson Prize. He likes to dangle money in front of people so people will fawn all over him. If he weren't dangling money, he would have no friends or contacts at all.

Just in, Mexican student gives birth control to street dogs. A student in Mexico is already using a contraceptive for dogs as are some others. This is over a decade since Gary Michelson launched his Michelson Prize. Many people should have won the Prize but Michelson refuses to award it. Instead every year he moves the goal posts. Last I heard it must be a one shot permanent sterilant for cats, dogs that Gary Michelson can patent and make money selling. That's no prize.

Gary Michelson said he'd have a one shot sterilant for cats, dogs. He failed. Found Animals.

In December 2005 I met Gary Michelson for the first time in person at Kathy Riordan's house. He stated at that time he was going to use his money, brains and contacts to find a one shot sterilant for cats, dogs. He said he would quickly make Los Angeles the first true no kill city in the nation. I have a DVD of that meeting which I took.

Gary started the $75 million Michelson Prize. $50M would go for research grants. The $25M prize would go to the first person who gave him a one shot or dosage sterilant for cats and dogs. I sent in three drugs which would work. I'm sure others sent in more drugs. Gary did not pay the prize. Instead he moved the field goal.

The new Prize had a bunch of hoops you had to jump through. He had to be able to patent the drug in his name. Sounds like he wanted to patent and sell it for profit. If someone had a one shot sterilant, it would make sense for them to patent and sell it instead of giving it to Gary. It'd be worth more than the $25M.

It's now 13 years later. The research grants didn't produce a one shot sterilant. Gary refused to award the Prize to anyone. If I sent in three drugs, many other people sent in even more drugs. Gary Michelson is a failure. He doesn't keep his promises. When he doesn't keep promises he generally says "I never said that." He doesn't use email, fax or written letters. I may post the DVD of that meeting. He clearly states Found Animals will focus mainly on spay and neuter. Just months later he said the focus would be pet Kiosks and microchips instead. I always took written notes of our meetings because he always denied what he said just so he wouldn't have to keep a promise, an agreement. Just look at how Gary lied about his business arrangement with Richard and Neil.

Assemblyman Gatto listened to our concerns and everyone who has contacted him. He has taken all the issues to heart and has pulled the bill so it can be fleshed out to do the absolute best for shelter animals.

Dr. Gary Michelson funds Dr. Jon LaMarre's research for one-shot sterilant

I watched the video. I hope Dr. Jon LaMarre was just over simplifying his research. He said he hopes to develop a drug which can be injected which will kill the eggs and sperm. Cats are like humans in that female cats are born with all the eggs they will ever have. Male cats are also like humans. They produce sperm throughout their life time. They are not born with all the sperm fully developed. Imagine if they were! If you were to kill cats' sperm, they would just make more sperm. I'm hoping he means that he wants to inject a drug which will kill, disable eggs and sperm production.

From Dr. Jon's press release, "Dr. Jonathan LaMarre, Biomedical Sciences, is looking at looking at ways to target and disrupt small RNA pathways that control the development of sperm cells and egg cells in dogs and cats."

Because cats are born with all their eggs, he'd have to inject them before they are born. How does that work?

One thing Dr. Gary Michelson might not realize. Universities are supported by grants and donations. There are whole departments in universities where their only job is to get grants. If you look at Dr. Jon LaMarre, that is his positive at this university, Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). His job is to get grants. He is not a contraception specialist. He generally does projects related to gene suppression and cancer. His job is to find grants. He will apply for any grant related to animals in any way. That doesn't make him an expert in contraception or sterility. His job is done. He got money. He's not up for the $25M prize. He got his $200K. After a year or so he'll give Dr. Gary Michelson a little report which will say "more research is needed." He will not get a one shot sterilant. He'll just get a "thank you!" for the $200K.

When I was at USC I was in the research department. I know first hand that the main goal of a university is MONEY. The professors are pushed very hard to get grants and do research projects. They don't care if they do world changing research or not. Look at POM juice. They gave UCLA millions to do small studies to "prove" their pomegranate juice cures aging, cancer, erectile dysfunction. POM then used these "independent studies" in their marketing and advertising. They were then busted by the FTC for misleading advertising...twice. The results of all studies were "a larger study is needed." UCLA got money. POM got advertising. Animals were killed. Turns out POM juice is very bad for you. It may have caused some human research subjects to die. It made their prostate cancer grow faster. I wrote an article about this in 2008.

Below is from Found Animals Foundation website. He admits he is doing research on genes that regulate meiosis. That makes no sense. He'd have to inject the developing eggs in the cats and dogs. They can do whatever they want with the money and just send Gary a little report. The Prize and grants have been around since 2005 yet no one has won the prize or developed a sterilant.

Targeting piRNA/endo-siRNA pathways for the control of companion animal fertility

Dr. LaMarre is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph.

His laboratory investigates the post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression and fertility in domestic animals and model species. The primary recent focus of his research group has been the roles of small RNAs in the molecular control of specific genes that are regulated during meiosis and preimplantation embryo development. With the support of the Found Animals Foundation, his group aims to inhibit the activity of key small RNA pathways in canine and feline gametes in an attempt to cause selective meiotic failure and permanent sterility with minimal side effects in other tissues. Dr. LaMarre received his D.V.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Guelph and 

We already have drugs that can be used off-label as one-shot sterilants. Gary Michelson doesn't want those because he can't take credit for "developing the first one-shot sterilant in the WORLD!" He also can't sell those to pharmaceutical companies or governments for a huge mark up.

I really doubt that Gary Michelson really cares if he gets a one-shot sterilant or not. He said he now just gives money to whichever project "makes me feel better." Perhaps all he wants is a pat on the back and some ass kissing.

I just saw this pic. He's doing the dick in the box routine from SNL but with a cat. That is gross. What mentally ill person thought this up?

I took an even closer look. There are photos of these men wearing sashes! The only time I've seen men wear sashes is for drag queen contests. Someone with some common sense needs to give Aimee and Gary some advice. This is why everyone laughs at Gary Michelson behind his back and to his face.

They even had a fashion show at the Abbey in WeHo. I'm sure Gary Michelson went to the event. There's no way he would want to miss out on "prancing" "shirtless male models." My report on "The Economics of Animal Control" for Gary Michelson

I could post the report because I signed no confidentiality agreement or gag order. I won't because there was a mistake in the report. Gary Michelson asked me first to write a report of the effectiveness of spay neuter on pet overpopulation. I did that and gave it to him. Then he said he told me to write a report on all approaches to solving pet overpopulation using scientific research to support my findings. I quickly rewrote my report. FTR I took notes at the meeting. He originally only asked for spay neuter data.

Before I finished the report I said there was no independent scientific research on the effectiveness of TNR. All reports were merely anecdotal reports by the biased colony guardians with no verified statistics. There was no control group or research control of any type. I also said that their statistical assumptions are not valid and cannot be used. For instance they state two cats can make 200,000 more cats in seven years. This is not true. They assume all female cats have two litters of 6-8 kittens per year and every kitten and adult cat survives for seven years. That's impossible. They don't include a proper kitten and adult cat mortality rate, not all cats have 6-8 kittens...or many other factors.

TNR is trap neuter and return. The theory is if you trap, neuter then return feral cats to an outdoor feral cat colony, their population will go to zero within one generation or seven years. This of course only works in a vacuum. It does not work in the real world. The problem is you can't trap all animals. People will continue to dump animals. Most people don't even try to trap and neuter because they can only afford to feed. New cats move to the colony on their own for food. Generally the colony grows even though cats die from illness and injury. Plus, these cats do not lead a happy life as they don't get proper vet care, vaccinations... They generally do not lead a humane existence.

Even though I told Gary about this he is still supporting TNR. Don't get me wrong. I love cats and have cats, indoor cats. I believe cats should be indoors for their safety and the safety of native wildlife. I would prefer if cats were in enclosed sanctuaries. I realize this is not possible at this time. I'm not calling for people to kill outdoor cats or to ignore outdoor feral cats. Cat overpopulation is the biggest problem in pet overpopulation. This is why we really need a permanent chemical sterilization method. We can't surgically alter our way out of this situation because cats reproduce so quickly and plentifully.
