Gary Michelson tries to solve a problem in the most expensive, difficult way just so he can get a patent

Shoe that grows, gary michelson, round worms, vaccine, sabine, forbes, billionaire

In developing countries many children and adults become infected with soil transmitted round worms. The main cause is no shoes. One of the reasons they don't have shoes is money. Another reason is at least with children they tend to outgrow shoes quickly needing another larger pair. At least adults can keep the same pair.

Gary Michelson donated millions into finding a vaccine for soil transmitted round worms. He wants to vaccinate everyone in all these countries. That's one way to approach the problem. It would be a lot easier just to give the people shoes. There are many soil transmitted parasites, bacteria, virus even insects that can infect people. It doesn't make any sense to spend millions trying to make a vaccine for each and every single parasite, bacteria or virus. Let them have shoes.

From the website, "Over 2 billion people suffer from soil-transmitted diseases and parasites.  They live in areas that do not have adequate sanitation.  They struggle with proper hygiene.  They do not have the right clothing, resources, or health coverage.  And being sick = struggling.  Kids miss school, can’t help their families, suffer with pain. Many of these diseases and parasites get into the body because people don’t have shoes."

The vaccine that Gary Michelson is paying to invent would treat one species of round worm. Will be spend millions more to invent a vaccine to treat all soil-transmitted diseases? After he pays to invent 1,000 vaccines, he will then have to administer the 1,000 vaccines to millions of people. He might even have to give boosters. Imagine how much it would cost to administer and readminister vaccines? Plus, if someone got cheap and used used needles, he could transmit disease.

Another thing to consider is some people will die from vaccinations. It's a small percentage but it happens. Wouldn't shoes be easier, cheaper and not have the risk of death? This would make sense to most people, just not to Gary Michelson. The only thing Gary knows is patents. He also doesn't really care about the people being infected. He just wants his name is big shiny letters on a patent for his ego. Shoes, not vaccines.

As an analogy of Gary Michelson's horrible logic consider this question. Sometimes it rains. If you go outside in the rain, you'll get wet. What is the most effective way for a human in the rain to stay dry?

A. Spend a bajillion jillion dollars to build a plastic bubble around the world so people don't get wet.
B. Spend a bajillion dollars genetically altering humans turning them into fish which enjoy water.
C. Spend a jllion dollars giving everyone a frontal lobotomy so they don't realize they are getting wet.
D. Wear a rain coat.

If Gary Michelson were to answer this question, he would go with A and B because he could patent those things. If theshoethatgrows people were to answer the question, they would go with D. They would build a durable, expandable, inexpensive hoodie rain coat and give them to poor people for free. That's using your head and your heart instead of your ego.

Below is info on the company. If I had money, I'd donate some shoes to need children.
